A ceremonial event to welcome first-year students of the Industrial and Technological Institute of Zhangir Khan University into the ranks of student chemists was held.
During the event, the institute’s faculty members and senior students extended their best wishes to the students, wishing them success in the new academic year and achievements in acquiring professional knowledge. The first-year students also took a solemn oath as student chemists, demonstrating their sense of responsibility.
The event also highlighted the importance and prospects of the field of chemistry, with meaningful insights shared to increase students’ interest in their chosen profession. At the end of the event, the first-year students were presented with «сhemist» badges.
– The main purpose of today’s event is to welcome first-year students into the «ranks of chemists» and support their successful transition into student life. It also aims to explain the importance of their chosen profession, increase their interest in the science of chemistry, and foster unity and a professional environment. This year, 62 students who chose the «сhemical еngineering and рrocesses» programme were admitted to the university. Of these, 40 students are studying in the bachelor’s degree programme, two students are enrolled under the shortened programme, and 20 students are studying using distance learning technologies. In addition to receiving quality education, students have opportunities to participate in research activities, conduct experiments in laboratories, carry out professional projects, participate in Olympiads and scientific conferences, as well as develop their abilities in sports, cultural and creative fields. The university’s official website also provides information about the digital university for students, available vacant educational grants, and opportunities in student life, – said Aliya Orazova, Senior Lecturer of the «сhemical еngineering and рrocesses» educational programme.
The specialist also highlighted the importance of this particular profession, sharing her views on its relevance to society and its prospects.
– Chemical engineering is a profession that requires theory to be combined with practice. Therefore, students carry out practical work in chemical laboratories, learn to work with modern equipment, conduct analyses, understand technological processes, and process the results obtained. They also have the opportunity to become familiar with the operations of real enterprises through industrial internships. Today, the chemical industry is one of the important areas of Kazakhstan’s manufacturing sector. In 2025, the output of Kazakhstan’s chemical industry reached 1.5 trillion tenge, increasing by 9.8% over the year. In 2026, an increase in the production of a number of products, including ammonium nitrate, polypropylene, sulfuric acid, and caustic soda, is expected. Therefore, there will continue to be demand for qualified chemical engineers who have mastered chemical technology, industrial processes, and modern technologies. For modern production, engineers who not only possess theoretical knowledge but are also able to manage technological processes, conduct laboratory analyses, and ensure production safety and quality are essential. In particular, in-demand areas include chemical technologists, chemical engineers, industrial laboratory specialists, analytical chemists, specialists in petrochemistry and polymer technology, specialists in materials and new technologies, as well as specialists in environmental and industrial safety. A chemist today is not simply a specialist who conducts experiments in a laboratory, but an engineer who connects production, technology, quality, and innovation. The B060 programme itself is associated with chemistry, the manufacturing industry, hydrocarbon raw material processing, polymers, and research, – Aliya Frunzeqyzy concluded.
